Art Gallery

Open since 2011, the gallery is located on Grand Street on the Lower Eastside of NYC, across from his father’s former textile store. Marc worked at the store throughout his childhood, as recounted in One-Legged Mongoose. MARC STRAUS gallery represents 24 artists from 16 different countries. Originally focused on emerging artists not previously exhibited in New York mixed with a few mid-career artists from Asia and Europe who had not previously shown in the United States. As these artists have grown with the gallery we’ve added older artists to the program whom we believed were making important work, yet were not receiving the attention we thought due, such as Hermann Nitsch, Sandro Chia, and Jeanne Silverthorne. In June 2014, FlashArt listed the gallery among the TOP 100 in the world. Artworks by gallery artists have been acquired by major museums including: Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Crystal Bridges, National Gallery of Canada, Smithsonian Institute, MFA Boston, MoMA, Tate Modern, Centre Pompidou and more. Artists have been included in: Venice and Prague Biennials, Site Santa Fe and more.
